If you are interested in taking a Java tour, there is a site in line to visit. It’s Ijen Crater. Ijen Crater, as the name implies, is a crater located at the top of Mount Ijen. This crater was built with a depth of about 200 meters and a width of 5,466 hectares. Of course, there are many reasons why this area is special and even worth a visit. While it may not be as popular as Bali or Bromo, it has some interesting facts to know.
Wre they?
Strategic location
The crate is located between Bondowoso Regency and Banyuwangi Regency in East Java. Banyuwangi itself is the tip of the island of Java, next to Bali. This means that the trip from Bali to Ijen Crater is relatively short and fast. Therefore, every tour package either from Bromo to Bali or from Bali to Bromo must include Ijen as a destination.
Blue Fire
Based on several surveys conducted by local people, the main reason tourists visit Ijen Crater is because of the Blue Fire. Blue fire is a natural fire on land that originates from the earth. Absolutely harmless, of course when viewed from a certain distance. Moreover, the blue flames were extremely dazzling and beautiful and could not be easily found anywhere else. On this earth, there are only two blue flames; they are Ijen and certain areas of Iceland. To reach this area, you have to climb first because it is located at an altitude of 2,443 above sea level. Unfortunately, you can’t see blue flames all the time. The flames are at their peak of beauty from 02.00 to 03.00 am.
Incredible Ijen Sunrise
Another moment that can be enjoyed there is the sunrise. This is supported by the surrounding scenery which is also very beautiful. However, there is indeed an attempt to enjoy the sunrise here. Make sure to get up very early and even in the middle of the night. Yes, after you finish watching Blue Fire at 03.00 in the morning, you can continue your journey by heading to the sunrise area. Just wait a minute until dawn. In the morning just get off and rest at the hotel or homestay before heading to the next destination.
Coffee Tour
This tourist spot is still relatively new. It is undeniable, some regions in Indonesia are indeed famous for their coffee. Well, one of them can only be found in the Lerek area, Banyuwangi, right on the slopes of Bromo. The specialty coffee here is Robusta. For you coffee lovers, don’t miss it because you can enjoy a cup of coffee while in the middle of the plantation. Would you like to have more experience? The tourists are allowed to pick the coffee beans themselves before they are processed and brewed into a delicious drink.
Traditional Cart
While elsewhere you can get anywhere by taxi, bus and other means of transportation with machines, traditional carts are still used here. Then, there are local residents whose job is to pull this cart. Of course, there’s already a fixed rate and you shouldn’t be surprised if it’s a little pricey. The cart pullers also need to expend their energy.
Traditional Mining
Not only enjoying the scenery, you can also see the activities of local residents. They are traditional miners. Miners usually descend into the crater to collect chunks of sulfur. Uniquely, they still do it in a very conventional way without using modern machines and technology. Since they were completely capable of doing that, this job was harmless to them.
